Office Plants and Terrace House Landscaping: Practical Choices in Malaysia

Choose plants for offices and terrace houses based on light, air conditioning, walkway space and the time available for care.

Indoor plant styling in a modern Malaysian office.

Start with the conditions in your space, rather than a plant name.

A plant that looks attractive at the nursery may not suit your space. In offices, window light, air conditioning, foot traffic and care routines matter more than trends. For terrace houses, afternoon sun, drainage and root space help determine which plants will thrive over time.

For offices and air-conditioned spaces

  • ZZ Plants and Snake Plants suit corners with low to moderate light
  • Aglaonema adds colour to spaces without direct sunlight
  • Dracaena and Rubber Plants can serve as focal points when space and light are sufficient
  • Use stable pots and position plants so they do not obstruct emergency exits or everyday movement

For terrace houses

  • Palms and Heliconia add height and tropical layers in more open areas
  • Ixora, Bougainvillea and Lantana can add colour in sunny areas with appropriate care
  • Check soil, drainage and root space before choosing plants that will grow larger

Three questions to ask before buying

Does the space receive direct or indirect light? How often can you water the plants and clean their leaves? Will the plants obstruct doors, walkways or parking spaces? Your answers help RimbaScape recommend practical plants, pots and placement.
